About This Blog

Porch Stories™ is a neighborhood storytelling tour that I began in 2007. At selected porches the walking tour stops to hear an actor from the community theatre tell an engaging story about an inspiring neighbor: past or present. My writing group researches and writes the stories.

The idea for Porch Stories came to me from ruminating on the fact that no one sits on their front porch anymore visiting with their neighbors. Backyard decks just don’t cut it. People feel disconnected. Virtual socializing has its benefits but can lack authenticity. In this age of social disparities and cultural conflicts, it has become more important than ever to think of ways to connect with our neighbors and strengthen our communities. Porch Stories can do that!

Porch Stories began in the summer of 2007 in a small town in Northeast Ohio. This is a picture from that first tour:

We are in the process of moving the production to the San Francisco Bay Area. Please stay tuned! In the meantime, this blog will showcase stories from the first four years and will also keep you updated on our journey. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions: 330-319-3193.
